My Friend, The Stomach Flu

The day after I kicked the stomach flu was the best day of my life...
- or at least it felt that way.

On New Years Day I'd finally ridden myself of the horrible 'plague' known as this year's stomach flu. But I'd rather refer to it as last year's plague/stomach flu of 2008. I think it's fitting for it to remain a last year's thing- it rounds out the year. It also keeps with the idea that 2009 will truly be a better year for us all :)You all know what I am taking about. The horrible cacophony of sounds in your tummy, the overall ache from your head to your toes. In inescapable runs to the bathroom...
The mean things you snap at your husband when he jumps on the bed beside you?

Most of you have had it, are currently experiencing it, or have watched a family member suffer with it. For those select few who remain immune, you lucky dogs... This year's flu is HIGHLY contagious. I watched my little grandma suffer with it before it infected my grandfather.

I thought I had outsmarted it!
I took echinacea & doubled my vitamin C. I was washing my hands religiously and I even covered my face with my scarf the entire plane ride back to Kansas City (yes, I caught a few stares). But around 4:00Am last Tuesday morning, I was running to the bathroom.

I knew I was in for a rough few days... I rang in the new year with a bucket & a pint of Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I was nervous about the repercussions this virus would present if my husband were to catch it. (You all know he's been rather sick.)

But I am here a week later singing praises & happy to feel normal and I believe my husband is one of those lucky few immune! Now to unbury myself from the piles of work waiting on me...

And to any of you suffering with the stomach flu, pretend 2009 starts the day AFTER you kick it ;)
